REVIEW POINTS

Four handoffs, each with a different question

Requirements capture

Document room dimensions, audience areas, program sources, typical operators, expected background noise and any emergency communication obligations. The output is a shared brief, not a premature product list.

Acoustic prediction

Compare aiming, direct-to-reverberant behavior, overlap and level variation across representative seats. Predictions are decision tools; they depend on trustworthy geometry, absorption assumptions and product data.

Electrical coordination

Map amplifier channels, loudspeaker loads, headroom, network topology, latency and ventilation. Constant-voltage and low-impedance branches require different checks, and neither eliminates cable-loss calculations.

Commissioning record

Verify polarity, delay, level, limiter settings, fault monitoring and control states. Save configuration versions and measurement conditions so the service team can distinguish a changed room from a changed system.

Questions that prevent expensive rework

Some choices are architectural, some operational, and some regulatory. They should not be collapsed into one generic “sound quality” requirement.

The audio designer defines acoustic intent; a qualified structural professional and installer verify loads, attachment and local requirements. Manufacturer hardware does not replace project-specific structural review.

Use familiar program material, matched levels and representative listener positions. Record room conditions and compare coverage consistency, speech intelligibility, headroom and operator workflow rather than a single seat impression.

Include current drawings, device schedule, configuration backup, firmware versions, amplifier loading, network addressing, measurement notes and a fault-response contact path.

After review

  • Audience zones, variation target and excluded areas recorded
  • Output compared under stated bandwidth and test conditions
  • Clocking, VLAN, redundancy and support responsibilities assigned
  • Polarity, delay, limiter and control-state checks included in acceptance
